Europe needs to be brave, strong and just to meet the environmental challenges we face in our region and to be an example to the rest of the world. But leading the way to a more sustainable future and coming together as one to make much needed progress in the ecological transition has never been easy. In these times of war in our immediate vicinity, political polarisation, and with the Covid-19 pandemic’s impacts on our societies still strikingly evident, the challenges grow.
With the 2024 European Parliament elections coming up, we also want to put the spotlight on what the EU has achieved through the European Green Deal and through the 2022 COPs on climate and biodiversity. The political responsibility for these files and the future of our region are in the hands of the politicians we elect and CSOs have the responsibility to share the concrete and positive measures that change the lives of people for the better.
On January 1, 2023, Sweden took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU and with that, end the ongoing presidential trio.
On Monday 8 May 2023 the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) – in collaboration with its member the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) – will host its annual conference in Stockholm and online. It will bring together key players in the European environmental movement, progressive businesses and academia with political decision-makers to discuss the main challenges of ecological transition at European level.
Keynote speakers and panellists will be invited to discuss what type of new European Green Deal is needed to make the EU fit for a sustainable future where people and planet thrive together and where economies operate within planetary boundaries.
